How CentralEvidence Works
We built this platform with your safety and legal protection in mind. Here's exactly how we protect you and ensure your evidence holds up in court.
Delayed Release: Why We're Safer Than Live Streaming
Your safety is our top priority. Here's why we don't do live streaming.
The Problem with Live Streaming
Services like Facebook Live can put witnesses in immediate danger:
- •Real-time location broadcast reveals exactly where you are
- •Subjects of the video can see it immediately and may retaliate
- •No time to safely leave the area before video goes public
- •Digital trail leads directly back to you in the moment
Our Solution: Time-Delayed Release
CentralEvidence holds your video for a minimum of 24 hours, releasing it at midnight Central Time. This gives you time to:
- ✓Leave the area safely before anyone knows you recorded
- ✓Return home and establish distance from the incident
- ✓Protect your identity by breaking the time-location connection
- ✓Review and confirm you want the video published
Videos are encrypted and stored securely until the scheduled release time. Access is logged, audited, and restricted to essential security and maintenance functions.
SHA-256 Hash: Court-Admissible Evidence
Every video gets a unique digital fingerprint that proves it hasn't been tampered with.
What is a SHA-256 Hash?
SHA-256 is a cryptographic algorithm that generates a unique 64-character code from any file. Even changing a single pixel in a video produces a completely different hash. This means if the hash matches, the video is guaranteed to be identical to the original.
Why Courts Accept SHA-256 Evidence
Any modification to the video changes the hash, making alterations immediately detectable.
Anyone can compute the hash and verify it matches—no trust in us required.
The hash establishes when the video existed and proves continuity from upload to court.
SHA-256 hashing is recognized by courts worldwide as a valid method for authenticating digital evidence. Immigration attorneys and civil rights lawyers can use your video with confidence that its integrity is mathematically provable.
Who We Are
A community-first, non-profit mission to protect civil rights through documentation.
CentralEvidence is a small team project dedicated to providing a secure platform for documenting public enforcement activities. We are unaffiliated with any government agency, political party, or law enforcement organization. We believe that documentation is protection.
Community-First
We exist to serve affected communities, not institutions. Every feature we build starts with the question: does this protect the person recording?
Privacy by Design
We strip metadata, delay releases, and encrypt everything because your safety is more important than convenience.
Open & Accountable
We publish transparency reports, open-source our security practices, and welcome scrutiny because trust must be earned.

- We will never sell your data or share it with third parties
- We will never cooperate with requests that endanger witnesses
- We will always prioritize safety over speed or virality
